8:46 Breathing Room
October 18-Nov 1, 2021
An 8 minute and 46 second new play festival in association with The Breath Project
Rivendell re-emerges with 8:46 (BREATHING ROOM) a new festival featuring four exciting new commissions, each 8 minutes and 46 seconds long. Through world premiere performances and community events — Rivendell’s Associate Artistic Director, Denise Yvette Serna, transforms Rivendell’s annual new play festival to reflect the moment we collectively find ourselves in now. The festival invites community members to invest in artists of the global majority, offering them space to consider, share, and take a breath. On November 1st, the festival concludes with streaming event in remembrance of the lives lost to brutality, negligence, and ecological apartheid of the last two years.
My heartfelt gratitude goes out to the artists for sharing their work. It is my sincere hope that we are able to collaborate again in the future, and that we continue to hold our space together, listening to one another, and committing to growth.

HOMESET, a quarterly salon series bringing artists together to share ideas. 3 artists showcase their works in progress, lesser practiced skills, and interests in a casual atmosphere.
Artists flourish in conversation with one another, experiencing and examining one another's work -- especially in times of social and political unrest. It propels our aesthetic and understanding farther forward, and stokes the fire of active engagement. In an effort to cultivate these nurturing spaces for artists, and in response to the need for more cross-exposure in the Chicago arts scene, HOME SET was put into action.
